The summer Pride Season is just around the corner! Our resident artist, Brian Ponce is helping to organize Madison Pride. To help relieve his workload, Pride High is seeking guest artists for the issues slated for summertime production, #5 & #6. Specifically, we're seeking a penciler for #5 (May - Mid June), and both a penciler & colorist for #6 (July - Mid August).
This is a paid project with a negotiable rate. In addition to your credits in the comic and website, you will also be noted in the Wikipedia entry on Pride High. Fall 2007, Issues 1-6 of Pride High will be compiled into a trade paperback by Regent Press, with an initial run of 1,000 copies. Joining our team for the summer is a great opportunity to get your work out there!
Pride High follows the adventures of a gay-straight alliance at a school for super-powered youth. First published in September 2006, Issues 1-3 are available online and in print. Issue 4 is set for a May release. Themes in Pride High include:
1) Homophobia in the school environment and the isolation many LGBT students experience
2) The intersection of racism in the LGBT community and homophobia in communities of color
3) The lives of youth who are both queer and disabled
4) Young, queer love
As part of our commitment to the LGBT community, Pride High also includes in each issue at least four pages of free advertisements for various LGBT advocacy groups, as well as independent artists and musicians. Organizations currently featured include The Trevor Project, California GSA Network, Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG), Blind Friends of Lesbians and Gays (BFLAG), Children of Lesbians and Gays Everywhere (COLAGE), and Prism Comics.
