$38.89, Red Beans & Rice

Creole Red Beans and Rice is one of my favorite dishes. And for the quantity the standard recipes yields, it's pretty cheap. I made a batch last night using Chuck Taggart's Red Beans and Rice recipe.

The last time I featured this on my blog I used fried tempeh for a "bacony" flavor, but tight budget = no frills.

Creole Red Beans & Rice

$4.67 - 2 lbs kidney beans, 28oz brown rice
$4.01 - onion, green bell pepper, celery

Wow. Looks yummy!

So would beans be cheaper (per serving) if you bought a huge bag of them? Or maybe you did, I'm not sure. We get 20# bags from our co-op for 5.oo and it lasts us a GOOD long time...

Hey!! I love your blog, but you know that... I need to check back more often than I do! I'd love a to get a copy of the comic book, BTW, (I'm a comic book geek mainly) I'll ask you about that later...

It's good to see you again, Tofu-N-Sprouts!

I really should check into buying in bulk like that. I've never put myself on such a strict budget before, so I just never thought about buying things in that quantity before.

As a single guy with no kids and no pets, just winging it from day to day was enough. But now that I do have a "baby" in the form of the comic book, things have changed.

As for the comic book, it's easy to order. Just go to
